Protect Your Investment: How To Tell When Your Tile Roof Needs Repairs

Blog

If you had a tile roof installed on your home, you've made a good choice. Tile roofs can last from 50 to 100 years, which means you shouldn't need to worry about replacements. But, your tile roof will still require repairs from time to time. Taking care of timely repairs will help to ensure long-life for your tile roof. To make sure you do take care of those timely repairs, it's important that you know what to look for. Here are three signs that your tile roof is in need of repairs.

You've Got Broken Tiles

If you've recently encountered a hail storm in your area, you'll need to inspect your tile roof as soon as possible. Tile roofs are designed to withstand typical storms. However, large hailstones can do considerable damage to tiles. Large hailstones can be about the size of a golf ball. If your roof has been hit by golf ball-sized hail, you need to check your tiles for damage. If you find cracks or breaks in your tiles, you need to have your roof repaired as soon as possible.

You've Lost Fasteners

If it's been a few years since you had your tile roof installed, now's a good time to start inspecting the fasteners. Your tiles are designed to last a lifetime, but that's not necessarily the case for your tile fasteners. In fact, tile fasteners can rust, corrode, and break. Unfortunately, if the fasteners fail, you could end up losing your tiles. One of the best ways to avoid tile loss is to repair or replace the fasteners at the first sign of damage. If your inspection turns up damaged fasteners, call for repairs right away.

Your Tiles are Sliding

If you've noticed unusual spacing between your tiles, it might be time for repairs. The spacing changes could be caused by sliding, which can occur when tiles are exposed to extreme heat. Roofing tiles are installed using a roofing adhesive. When exposed to extreme heat, roofing adhesive can lose its stickiness, which can cause the tiles to slide out of position. Unfortunately, sliding can increase the risk for leaks. To avoid problems, you should call for repairs as soon as you notice that your tiles have slid or shifted.

Don't take chances with your tile roof. If you've noticed any of the issues described above, contact a roofing contractor near you for roofing repair services. Timely repairs of issues like the ones listed above will help to protect your roof.

Roofing Fundamentals: What To Know Before Replacement

When it came time to install a new roof on my home, I had no idea where to start. In fact, I was exploring roofing options that were a really poor fit in my climate. It wasn't until I reached out to a local roofer that I got some lessons on how to choose the right roofing material for my home and the weather exposure it is subjected to. I built this site to share my journey, including the mistakes I made and the things that I learned along the way. If you are considering replacing your home's roof, I hope that the information here can help to guide you through the process.
