Roof Inspection Tips You Can Do Yourself

Blog

Determining if you have a damaged roof should be left to a professional roofing company, but there may be things that you can see for yourself that may indicate a problem with your roof. You should inspect your roof often to see if you have any damage that may need to be repaired to prevent the need of having to replace your roof. Some repairs may be very minor and won't cost you an arm and a leg to repair, but a roof replacement may end up costing you a lot of money, so it's important to keep a close eye on your roof. If you notice any issues, you need to call a professional roofer right away to have it inspected and repaired as needed. Read on for some roof inspection tips so you know what to look for.

Look From Afar

Look at your roof from across the street so you can get a full look at the roof. Look for shiny spots, wet spots, or any indication that the roof appears to be sagging. If you notice that the lines are not straight across, but rather appear to sag or dip, it could be a sign of an issue with the sheeting beneath the shingles. If you see that it is wet, it could indicate a leak that has led to moisture being present for much longer on your roof. If you have shiny spots on your roof, it may indicate that your asphalt shingles are no longer performing, and your roof may not be as protected as it should be.

Look From The Attic

Take a look inside your attic and look up at your roof from the underside. If you see wet spots or markings on the interior of your attic, that may indicate a leak. If you see daylight through your roof, this is also a cause for concern, as it should be completely dark in your attic. If you see daylight coming in through the roof, you could have a major issue on your hands. If you spot any other issues, such as sagging, wet insulation, or wet rafters, you need to have your roof inspected by a professional.

If you aren't paying enough attention to your roof, you may have concerning issues that need attention. Hire a roofer to inspect your roof for you and take some time to inspect your roof yourself from time to time to be sure it is still in good shape.

Roofing Fundamentals: What To Know Before Replacement

When it came time to install a new roof on my home, I had no idea where to start. In fact, I was exploring roofing options that were a really poor fit in my climate. It wasn't until I reached out to a local roofer that I got some lessons on how to choose the right roofing material for my home and the weather exposure it is subjected to. I built this site to share my journey, including the mistakes I made and the things that I learned along the way. If you are considering replacing your home's roof, I hope that the information here can help to guide you through the process.
